I’m in the middle of nowhere right now in Arkansas perched in my flat lay hammock with huge bug screen. This campground is in a beautiful lush forest. Met a super kind 75 year old gentleman who’s here with his wife and family. His name is Sunny and he’s a real character. A former union boss and navy veteran / Vietnam veteran. He came over to my campsite when he saw me arrive.
He and his wife brought me two hamburgers, 2 pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and peppers stuffed with cream cheese wrapped in bacon. It was so delightful to roll into this beautiful quiet forest campground and run into such kind and generous folks. They even donated $20 to Bell Socialization, the charity I’m riding for. He told me a great story about Charles Lindbergh taking the first overnight flight and landing in Lake View, Arkansas and a dozen other wonderful stories. Sunny gave me his and his wife’s phone number and told me that, if I need anything and I’m within 600 miles, he’s happy to come out and give me a hand.
